Armenian Stonecress 'Warley Rose'

Aethionema 'Warley Rose' is a captivating small evergreen sub-shrub that is often mistaken for a diminutive Daphne. It forms a neat, bushy mound of blue-grey, needle-like foliage. In late spring and early summer, it produces dense, rounded terminal clusters of small, four-petalled, deep rose-pink flowers that are subtly fragrant. This plant is a recipient of the RHS Award of Garden Merit and is highly regarded for its tidy habit and prolific flowering. It is native to sunny, rocky habitats in the Middle East and thus requires a very sunny spot with excellent drainage in the UK. It is particularly well-suited to the top of a dry stone wall or a sunny scree bed. To keep the plant from becoming leggy and to maintain its compact shape, it should be lightly pruned after flowering. It is generally hardy but dislikes winter wetness.
