Northern monkshood 'Ivorine'

Aconitum septentrionale 'Ivorine' is a unique and sought-after perennial for the woodland garden, offering a distinct colour palette compared to the usual blue monkshoods. It produces upright, stiff stems clad in deeply lobed, dark green foliage. In early summer (June and July), it is topped with dense spikes of small, helmet-shaped flowers in a sophisticated shade of ivory-white or pale cream. Growing to about 60-90cm, it is a substantial plant but rarely needs staking. It is fully hardy (H7) and thrives in the cool, moist, and partially shaded conditions typical of British gardens. Unlike many other Aconitums that flower late, 'Ivorine' blooms much earlier, filling the gap between late spring and mid-summer. Please note that all parts of the plant are highly toxic if ingested and can be an irritant to the skin, so it should be handled with gloves and placed away from children's play areas. It is an excellent companion for ferns, hostas, and pink woodland geraniums.
