Milfoil 'King Edward'
Achillea x lewisii 'King Edward' is a tiny, hybrid yarrow that is perfectly scaled for the alpine garden. It forms a low, spreading mat of finely dissected, feathery, soft grey-green foliage that remains attractive throughout the season. In early to mid-summer, it produces flat-topped clusters (umbels) of small, pale primrose-yellow flowers that age to a creamy white. This cultivar is particularly valued for its soft, pastel colouration and compact growth, never becoming invasive like some of its larger relatives. It is a tough and reliable plant that enjoys a sunny spot with good drainage. It is well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, and as a filler in gravel gardens. In the UK, it is appreciated for its long flowering period and its ability to withstand dry spells. A light trimming after the flowers have faded will help keep the foliage mat dense and tidy.
