Greek Yarrow
A delightful Greek alpine that forms a low, spreading carpet of finely-divided, silvery-grey evergreen foliage. It is highly valued in UK rock gardens for its tactile, fern-like leaves and its resilience during dry summers. In late spring and early summer, it produces relatively large, daisy-like white flowers with golden-yellow centres, held singly on short stems above the foliage. It is exceptionally hardy (H4) but requires excellent drainage and a position in full sun to maintain its compact habit and silver coloration; in damp or shaded spots, it tends to become leggy and lose its silver sheen. Once established, it is remarkably drought-tolerant, making it an ideal choice for gravel gardens, troughs, or crevices between paving stones. It provides excellent year-round interest due to its persistent foliage, even when not in flower, and is generally pest-resistant, though it must be protected from winter waterlogging to thrive.
Sun: Full sun.
Soil: Well-drained, gritty soil.
Hardiness: H4 — down to −10°C.
