Paperbark Maple
An elegant, slow-growing, deciduous tree renowned for its exquisite exfoliating bark, which peels in cinnamon-brown strips to reveal an underlayer of lighter bark. Reaching an ultimate height and spread of 8-10m, it forms an attractive, rounded crown. Its trifoliate leaves turn a stunning array of fiery oranges and reds in autumn, providing a spectacular display. Hardiness is excellent, typically H6. Prefers full sun to partial shade in well-drained, slightly acidic soil, but is adaptable. Small, yellow-green flowers appear in spring, followed by winged samaras. A superb specimen tree for year-round interest, offering great textural contrast in the winter garden. Low maintenance and generally pest-free, making it an excellent choice for a focal point.
