Amur Maple

The Amur Maple is a superb small, often multi-stemmed deciduous tree or large shrub, perfectly suited to UK gardens of all sizes. It is most celebrated for its incredible autumn performance, where the foliage turns a brilliant, fiery scarlet and orange. The leaves are distinctively three-lobed, with the middle lobe being much longer than the others. In late spring, it produces small, fragrant, creamy-white flowers, followed by decorative winged fruits (samaras) that often turn red as they mature in late summer. It is one of the hardiest maples available (H7) and is very tolerant of a range of conditions, including some drought and urban pollution. It thrives in well-drained soil and, while it can grow in partial shade, the best autumn colours are achieved in a full sun position. Its compact size and multi-season interest make it an excellent choice for a focal point or a mixed border.
