Japanese Maple
Acer palmatum, commonly known as Japanese Maple, is a highly prized deciduous tree or large shrub celebrated for its graceful habit and stunning foliage. There are countless cultivars, offering an incredible variety of leaf shapes, colours, and sizes, with many exhibiting spectacular autumn displays in shades of red, orange, and gold. Typically growing 2-8 metres tall, it provides excellent structural interest for UK gardens, especially in smaller spaces or as a feature plant. It thrives in a sheltered position, ideally with partial shade to protect its delicate leaves from scorching, and prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Japanese Maples are perfect for adding elegance and year-round beauty to a garden.
