Nordmann Fir 'Golden Spreader'

Abies nordmanniana 'Golden Spreader' is a slow-growing, dwarf conifer that forms a spreading, flat-topped mound of bright, golden-yellow foliage. The needles are short and dense, with a silver-white underside that provides a beautiful contrast when the branches catch the wind. This cultivar is very hardy (H7) and is an excellent way to introduce year-round light and colour into the garden. Unlike many golden conifers, it is relatively resistant to sun-scorch, though it appreciates a bit of protection from the hottest mid-day sun in the height of summer. It prefers cool, moist, and slightly acidic conditions, reflecting its mountain origins. In the UK, it makes a superb specimen for a large rock garden or a mixed border. Over time, it may develop a more tiered appearance, adding to its architectural interest. It rarely produces cones in a garden setting, with its primary appeal being its vibrant and reliable foliage. It is another recipient of the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
