Taiwan Fir

The Taiwan Fir is a neat, medium-sized evergreen conifer, forming a dense, pyramidal tree with short, glossy, dark green needles that are silvery-white on the undersides. It typically reaches an ultimate height of 10-15m and a spread of 4-6m. It is closely related to the Korean Fir and shares its attractive, upright, often purplish-blue cones, which appear even on younger trees. This species thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. It is hardy (H6) but benefits from some shelter from strong winds. A good choice for a specimen tree in a medium-sized garden, offering year-round interest with its appealing foliage and decorative cones. A beautiful slightly lesser known fir.
