Colorado White Fir
The Colorado White Fir is a magnificent conifer, prized for its elegant pyramidal habit and distinctive soft, silvery-blue-green needles. It makes a stunning specimen tree in larger UK gardens, eventually reaching an ultimate height of 20-30 metres with a spread of 8-12 metres, though it is slow-growing in its early years. Its flattened needles are notably aromatic when crushed. This fir prefers a position in full sun to partial shade and thrives in moist, well-drained, acidic to neutral soils. It is fully hardy, rated H7 by the RHS, and demonstrates good tolerance to drought once established. The upright, cylindrical cones, which mature from green to purple, are an attractive feature, adding further ornamental interest. An excellent choice for a majestic, long-lived garden focal point.
