Balsam Fir
The Balsam Fir is a classic fir tree with a dense, symmetrical, narrowly conical habit and fragrant, short, dark green needles that are white on the undersides. It is known for its resinous bark which often forms blisters. It typically reaches 15-25 metres in height with a spread of 5-8 metres. Fully hardy (H7), it thrives in full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained, acidic soil. It is relatively short-lived compared to other firs but is valued for its aromatic qualities and classic Christmas tree shape. Provides shelter and habitat for wildlife in its native range.
