European Silver Fir

A stately, large conifer, native to central and southern Europe, forming a magnificent, broadly conical tree with age. It can reach an ultimate height of 30-40 metres with a spread of 8-12 metres in UK gardens. The needles are dark green and glossy above, with two silvery-white bands beneath, giving a lovely two-tone effect. It produces prominent, erect, cylindrical cones. This species prefers cool, moist, well-drained, acidic to neutral soils and thrives in partial shade when young, tolerating full sun as it matures. Fully hardy (H6), it's a superb specimen tree for large estates or parkland, providing significant year-round impact and shelter.
