Glossy AbeliaBase 'Edward Goucher'

'Edward Goucher' is a graceful semi-evergreen shrub that creates a softer, more informal hedge with a exceptionally long season of interest. It features small, glossy dark green leaves that take on bronze tints in the autumn and winter. From mid-summer through to the first frosts of autumn, it is covered in a profusion of funnel-shaped, lilac-pink flowers with orange throats, which are slightly fragrant and highly attractive to butterflies. Even after the flowers fall, the colourful rosy-pink sepals persist, extending the display. This cultivar is slightly more compact than the species and has a charmingly arching habit. It is best suited to a sheltered spot in the UK, as it can lose leaves or suffer tip damage in very harsh winters or exposed northern gardens. It performs best in full sun and well-drained soil. It makes a beautiful flowering boundary for a patio or a division within a flower garden.
